Butterfly

As she lay there
Lost in somber
I see how she trusts me
How comfortable she is
With me

I see how she sleeps
Better when I’m here
Wrapped in a blanket
Like a butterfly
In its cocoon

And in the morning
My butterfly will wake
And be as beautiful then
As she is now
In her sleep

I wish that she
Could watch me sleep
Realizing that I too,
Do not miss the company
Of an empty bed

And as I’m awake and she is not
I lay here knowing
She answered my dreams
And I lay here waiting
To tell her so.
