One Last Time

All i want is to say goodbye
But i cannot do you that injustice
Instead i’ll say, “i love you”
Pretending it might not be
But knowing it could be
“One Last Time.”

All i want is to sit and talk
Without breaking down to cry
Producing the strength you need to see
So you do not feel it necessary
To tell me you love me
“One Last Time.”

All i want is to hear you say, “I love you”
Without the underlying desperation
Of thinking you need to say it
As if to right some wrong
That you never committed.

All i want is for you to think
i am unaware of the inevitable
So you can be at ease, unconcerned
With me knowing that you love me
Because i do.

All i want is to rewind the years
To the unappreciated yesterdays
So i can revel in the memories
i never knew i had
“One Last Time.”

All i want is to understand
Why it’s so easy to deal with loss
Until you’re holding a hand
You know you have to let go of
Saying “I love you”
“One Last Time.”
